For those of you who have moved into Indiana from out of state and have a question about why people never answer questions directly, here it is. It's called the Indiana NO.

Indiana No
noun

1. "To never answer a direct question by avoiding to answer it all, in hopes that individual asking the question understands that the answer is no, even though he never said no."

2. "Always wanting to appear nice by never answering what could be perceived as a negative answer, even though other party just wants to know"

3. "Opposite of the New York no"
